Food scandals are a dime a dozen in China mainly due to the huge population and booming economy. But the latest food scandal is totally disturbing and disgusting. 

Gutter oil is oil made by recycling waste oil from sewer drains, grease traps, restaurant fryers and even slaughterhouse waste. It is processed in illegal plants and then sold at around $940 a ton as compared to $1,500 a ton for normal cooking oil.

Food cooked in this oil tastes and looks just like normal food. But this oil has lots of highly carcinogenic chemicals in it. It is also believed to lead to developmental disabilities in kids.

In 1535, French explorer Jacques Cartier sailed up the St. Lawrence River in his search for the Northwest Passage. As winter approached, the river froze solid and Cartier and his crew spent several months near the Iroquoian village of Stadacona (today’s Quebec City).
